Astride.

The UX/UI design project was focused on building and designing a retail app. We created a subscription based app for books, so our users can easily access and receive new books every month.

 

After some research and several user testings we were able to create an app that would suit everyone.

After some research we knew we had a broad audience so while designing our app we had the users in mind to make the app as simple and straightforward as possible. We decided to use more natural colors to match the theme of our app. A big part of our app is that we give the user a chance to choose used books, to be more environmental friendly. We chose the name Astride after the famous Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.

Research

With research that included competitive analysis and user testing and interviews we began to see the needs of the app. This way we could scale out what worked and not. We could conclude from the interviews that the users wanted something straightforward, catered to their needs and options.

Solution

From what we gathered from our research we created an app that can replace a library. On the app you can personalize your account so it's more catered to the user. You can store your books in your personal library, chat in the bookclub and manage your subscription. You can find new and pre-used books as well as audio books in one place.

What is your favorite shopping application and what device do you use?
My favorite shopping app is depop and I use it on my phone and every once in a while on my ipad.

How often and what time of day do you use the app?
I probably use it once every other week, usually around night time.

What’s most appealing about the app?
The most appealing part of the app is probably the prices since it’s all previously owned clothing and you can communicate with the seller to lower the price.

What’s the hardest part about using this app?
The hardest part about using the app would probably be finding things catered to me since the searches on there are pretty broad.

Was there anything surprising or unexpected about the app?
There's nothing too surprising about the app other than they make it very easy to report if the seller has scammed you and you get your money back.

What can be done to improve the app?
I think the app would be better if they were able to filter clothes to specific people or what they’re looking for.

What feature of the app do you use the most?
I used the “depop edit” feature the most because it shows the newest items posted.

We based our personas from our user interviews to help us  understand our users needs, interests, frustrations and preferences.
